5 wild stars!

Four Letter Word by J. Daniels is book #1 in the Dirty Deeds series. This book put me through the emotional wringer. It made me smile, laugh, and cry. It ripped my heart out, then put it back feeling better than it did before. I love this book so much.

Sydney is in shock. Her husband of several years, Marcus, has just told her that he doesn’t want to be her husband anymore. Numb and confused, Sydney packs her things and leaves their home.

Simultaneously, Sydney’s best friend, Tori, is going through her own heartbreak. Tori has just discovered that the man she has been seeing isn’t at all who he claimed to be. Angry at the person who has hurt her best friend, Sydney pushes aside her own sadness for the moment and is filled with fury on Tori’s behalf.

Sydney hasn’t had time to process the end of her marriage, but she has to do something to make Tori’s situation right. In a fit of anger, Sydney picks up her phone and dials a number with the intention of laying into the man who has hurt Tori. And lay into him she does. There’s just one problem: Sydney has dialed the wrong number. On the other end of the line is a stranger–not Tori’s ex–a stranger who’s amused and intrigued by this wild girl, calling him every name and insult in the book.

So begins this amazing story and twisted case of mistaken identity. It’s layered with so much depth and emotion. I grew to care about Sydney, who comes to be known as Wild, as well as Brian, the lucky recipient of her misdial who comes to be known as Trouble.

While Sydney’s dealing with the end of her marriage and all that means for her as a person, she also has unresolved issues with her mother. In turn, Brian has many secrets in his past that few know about. He wants to hold Sydney at arm’s length, but the closer they get, the more he starts to realize that it might be good to let someone in for a change. It might even heal him. But secrets have a way of coming out–it’s only a matter of time.

If you’re ready to go for a ride, read this now. Spoiler alert: the chemistry between Sydney and Brian is crazy hot. Grab a fan and crank it up because you’re going to need it.

This is the first book I’ve read by J. Daniels and it certainly won’t be my last. The author made me care deeply about these characters. More than anything, I wanted them to find happiness together. This story filled me with the whole spectrum of emotions, but most of all, it filled me with happiness and hope. I highly recommend Four Letter Word and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
