What happens when the lumberjack next door knocks on your door?
You let him the hell in!
There he stood in only jeans and work gloves--all bulging arms and chiseled abs.
I couldn't help but look, stare even. How could I not? He looked like he knew his way around the female body and I was aching to find out exactly how much he knew.
If she keeps looking at me like that I'll have her in every room, every way, all night AND all day. I'll show her my world of pleasure and dominance. I'll make her feel things she never thought possible. I'll make her scream so loud the neighbors will know my name.
Well, they already do. I was the former town playboy after all.
Halloween with the Hunk by Jewel Killian has a fun premise: girl meets hunky lumberjack next door and sparks fly. However, there’s a lot more to this story than I expected and not all of it worked for me.
Graduate student Cass is staying at her friend’s parents’ house for a few days to work on her thesis. As she arrives in the small, quaint town, she’s hoping for some quiet time to get some serious work done. But as she pulls into the driveway, she’s struck by the super hot hunk next door.
Landon is hard at work chopping wood when he and Cass spot each other. There’s an instant attraction, but Landon’s not in the market for romance. He’s a former playboy who has reformed his bad boy ways. But when Cass needs help, he literally comes running to her rescue.
Insta-lust ensues immediately, followed by a misunderstanding/miscommunication that derails their budding romance. By the time it’s cleared up, sexy times resume right away, including some light BDSM that felt out of place to me. In such a new relationship (a matter of days), I had trouble believing that safe words and floggers would be accepted so readily.
Lastly, Landon turns out to be quite different from the man Cass initially interprets him to be. I would have enjoyed him much more had he truly just been the lumberjack that he appears in the beginning.
The sex scenes are hot, but there are so many other things going on at the same time that those distractions diminished my enjoyment of the book. It’s strongest at the start of the story, but the plot quickly derails. Having said that, I enjoyed other parts of the book and am curious about the next one in the series, so I plan on reading it when it’s released.
