Trick…or wicked treat!

It was a devastating dirty trick—Joey Silvia just found out her boyfriend of two years is married. What. A. Dick. Joey knows her best chance to get over one guy is to get under another. Of course, heading home to her family's remote cabin in Oregon poses some challenges in the "available men" department…until she discovers this cabin comes with its own hot handyman!

Holy crap, Chris Steffensen. When did her brother's best friend turn into a hard-bodied pile of blond-bearded hotness? He's the perfect Halloween treat—and a surprisingly dirty rebound guy. For a couple of weeks, anyway. Except that Chris has other ideas…like proving to Joey that this blast from the past is a whole lot more than a naughty Halloween hookup.

Her Halloween Treat by Tiffany Reisz might actually be perfect. I love it so, so much.

Airline marketing manager Jolene (aka Joey) has just received the shock of her life. She has just learned that her boyfriend of two years is actually a married man. Hurt, confused, and angry, Joey doesn’t have much time to process her emotions before leaving to attend her brother Dillon’s wedding (on Halloween, which also happens to be Joey’s birthday).

Back in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, Joey reconnects with her brother’s best friend, Chris. And how the years have been kind to him. Once, Chris was an awkward, quiet teenager who listened to grunge, wore a chain wallet, and mostly kept to himself. Now, he’s a super sexy contractor working on the cabin properties that Joey’s brother and soon-to-be husband have purchased as an investment.

Joey and Chris basically grew up together in high school and rallied around Dillon when he was frequently bullied at school for being gay. So there’s an established intimacy and camaraderie between Joey and Chris already, despite the fact that they haven’t seen each other in years. Additionally, Joey decides to take her best friend Kira’s advice: the best way to get over a guy is to get under another one. And that’s exactly what Joey does with Chris.

They were good friends in high school, but Chris had always been head over heels in love with Joey. When they went their separate ways after graduation, Chris struggled for a while before discovering how good he was working with his hands. Meanwhile, Joey found success in Hawaii working for the airline.

When Joey and Chris reunite in the present, there’s an intensity and obvious attraction that was never there as teenagers. Now, they decide to act on it with the stipulation that it’s only temporary until Joey returns to Hawaii. But the best-laid plans don’t always turn out the way they’re intended. Chris quickly realizes that he’s falling for Joey all over again. The question is, can she let herself fall in return, so soon after her recent heartbreak?

I absolutely love Tiffany Reisz’s writing style. The prose just flows across the page. The banter between Joey and her best friend Kira is hilarious. The flirty exchanges between Joey and Chris are simultaneously sexy and sweet.

Chris is one of those heroes who’s a real standup guy outside the bedroom and an incredibly dirty one between the sheets. In other words, the perfect romance hero. His devotion to Joey is rooted in the past, but feels more relevant than ever in the present.

The conflict in Joey’s heart made my own heart ache. She’s fresh off a deep hurt, but what she has found with Chris makes her so happy. It’s almost too good to be true. Can she allow herself to take the biggest risk of all?

I’m a sucker for a good friends-to-lovers romance and this book hits every target, story wise. I’m so excited to read the next book in Reisz’s Men at Work series for Harlequin Blaze. Her Halloween Treat is emotionally satisfying, super crazy hot, and I highly recommend it.
