I’ve had this post in the queue for a while, but I’ve been putting it off since I felt so lukewarm about the whole experience.

As annoying as Instagram’s ads can be, sometimes I actually see one that’s relevant to my interests. I first found out about PageHabit through one of these ads, then heard about it again when NetGalley offered a discount code for new subscriptions.

I looked at photos of the two previous PageHabit romance boxes before deciding to sign up. I figured I’d give it a try and if I didn’t like it, I’d cancel.

PageHabit Romance Box - August

Here’s what I received in the August romance box:

  • Annotated copy of Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino
  • Letter from Renee Carlino
  • The Bridge by Sacchi Green (Saachi? It’s spelled both ways on the cover and inside, so I’m honestly not sure)
  • If You Can Read This, Pass Me My Book socks
  • Magnetic bookmarks
  • Matilda bookmark
  • Cactus pen

The book is the main item, so of course I zeroed in on that first. I don’t hate the book I received, but I was a bit underwhelmed, especially after seeing the previous two romance selections (Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren and Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann). Goodreads tells me that Wish You Were Here is a new adult title, which isn’t my favorite sub-genre, but I do read it occasionally.

At first, I thought that The Bridge was a sampler, but it’s actually a short story. The inconsistent spelling of the author’s name grates my nerves a bit. The swag is pretty cute. I’ll definitely use the bookmarks…not sure about the socks or pen.

Overall, I’m disappointed with this box. Maybe I’m spoiled by my awesome Romance Reveal subscription, but as I mentioned, this box was just underwhelming.

Also, I didn’t enjoy the customer service experience, which involved delayed communication and a lack of reply to an email I sent customer service after my card had been charged. I emailed asking for an idea of when my box would ship, but didn’t receive a reply. After my email went unanswered, I actually had to reach out to them a second time via their live chat and finally got a response that way.

Your mileage may vary, but personally I was disappointed with the contents of the box itself, compounded by the not-so-great customer service.

I cancelled my PageHabit subscription since my curiosity has been satisfied.
