This review is different for me since it’s not for a book! But it’s definitely book-related.
Subscription boxes are a lot of fun–if you’re not familiar with them, they all work a little differently based on what type of box they are, but essentially you pay a fee and every month, you receive a box of surprise goodies in the mail. I used to subscribe to Birchbox (a beauty box) and I received a variety of products: makeup, nail polish, fragrances, hair care, etc. Usually, they were small sample sizes, but occasionally, I’d receive a full-size product. Also, I just finished my first round of a monthly yarn club. You pick the base yarn you like, then every month you receive a surprise colorway. It’s very fun if you like to be surprised once in a while.
I’ve had my eye on several book boxes–there are quite a few out there, with focuses on mainstream fiction, YA, comics, and other genres, but I wanted to find one that was specifically for romance readers.
I ran across the Romance Reveal Book Box on Instagram and decided to order a single box prior to deciding whether I wanted to subscribe. For the one-time purchase, it was $29.95 plus shipping. If you opt for the monthly subscription, it’s $24.95 for the month-to-month plan, which auto-renews. What made Romance Reveal stand out to me is that you receive two paperbacks every month, signed by the authors. That’s a nice feature that I didn’t find in any other romance book box. And of course, you receive all kinds of fun romance novel swag.
Shipping was very fast–I ordered on a Wednesday and received my box on Saturday. Of course, if you have a subscription, there’s a set time of the month when boxes will normally ship on a schedule. For my one-time purchase, I was still impressed with the fast shipping. But enough talk and on to the pics! (Click any of them to embiggen.)
In this box, I received:
- Signed copy of Slow & Steady by Kendall Ryan
- Signed copy of So Much More by Kim Holden
- Door hanger (Emma Hart)
- Signed series card (Beth Ehemann)
- Bookmark (J. Sterling)
- Romance Reveal sticker/bookmark
- Magnet (Laura Kaye)
- Button (Jillian Dodd)
- Mini button (Lori L. Otto)
- Pen (Emma Hart)
- Beauty sample (Vivo Per Lei moisturizer)
- Candy (not pictured because I ate it, haha)
First and foremost, the books! I was excited to read the back covers of these because I’ve never read these authors before and I’m always eager to discover new authors. Also, they’re signed! Pretty cool.
The door hanger is really funny–
–especially when you flip it over:
Here’s the card for the Cranberry Inn series by Beth Ehemann. The back (not pictured) is signed.
Next is a bookmark featuring books by J. Sterling:
And a sticker/bookmark with the Romance Reveal logo:
Last up are the magnet (Laura Kaye), button (Jillian Dodd), mini button (Lori L. Otto), and pen (Emma Hart):
All in all, I’m really happy with the things I received! I’m excited to read the books since these authors are new to me. I think the box is a great value because you get two signed paperbacks, plus a bunch of other goodies, all for less than $30 (and it’s $25 if you get the subscription). Based on this box, I’ve decided to subscribe because I think this will be a good way to discover new authors. Also, I’ve never been to a romance convention or conference, so I haven’t had the chance to pick up any swag until now.
I’m pretty impressed with Romance Reveal and I’m excited to receive next month’s box.
