I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley.

They caught me. Naked, shivering and dripping after a spontaneous swim in the forest. Two rugged men whose hard gazes captivated and scared me all at once.

They warned me. Told me I was on private property and I needed to obey the law…or I would be punished.

The idea of them both punishing me, pleasuring me, kept tormenting me. I couldn't want them. I shouldn't. But I did.

I didn't mean to trespass again. I thought I could retreat without notice. But they're coming for me.

To show me the pleasure in pain. To show me just how right forbidden can feel. And to love me twice as hard as I ever fantasized.

Twice as Hard by Amber Bardan is billed as a dark, taboo romance. In reality, there’s a significant plot twist halfway through that changes the course of the book. There’s also quite a bit of angst thrown in for good measure. While portions of the story are super hot, the twist threw off the story for me and caused me not to enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would.

Gabby lives in a remote location with her dog and hints at the fact that her husband hasn’t been home for a while, though it isn’t yet explained why. One day, Gabby decides to go skinny dipping in the forest when she accidentally runs into two mysterious brothers, Luke and Clarke. They tell her not to trespass on their property again or there’ll be consequences. Despite their threat, Gabby feels an attraction to them–but she goes on her way, warning noted.

Days later, Gabby’s dog takes off and Gabby chases her onto the men’s property. This time, they don’t let her go with a mere warning.

Here’s where the big plot twist happens, which I don’t want to spoil. However, I’ll just say that I didn’t expect the angsty corners that the story peers into and I definitely got more than I bargained for with this book. There’s a significant amount of drama in the second half of the story, so if you’re not looking for that, you might want to pass on this one.

Having said all that, there are some hot menage moments, if you’re willing to wade through the twists and turns to get there. For me, the book turned out to be very different from what I was expecting and it was just an okay read for me.
