Sometimes the heart needs a little Christmas magic.

When Dr. Christie Harmon up and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to escape a vicious scandal, she expected a quiet, lonely Christmas on-call as a pediatrician at the local hospital. But when she’s treating a little boy with a bump on the head, she doesn’t expect his dad to be so distractingly handsome…or single.

In the wake of his ex-wife’s abandonment five years ago, Luke Grayson has been focused on raising his son Ethan. The scars from the split run deep, and Luke hasn’t trusted another woman to come into their lives. But there’s something about the sweet—and sexy—Christie that has him wondering if something’s been missing.

Can new love help lonely hearts find a way? After all, Christmas is a time for magic…

When Snowflakes Fall is a holiday novella by Tara Wyatt and book #1 in The Graysons series. Although it’s a short story, it packs in a lot of emotion and unexpected depth.

Pediatrician Christie Harmon has recently relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in the wake of a nasty breakup and horrifying scandal. She needs a change of pace and the last thing she’s looking for is a new relationship.

Carpenter Luke Grayson is a single dad to eight-year-old Ethan. His ex left them several years prior and Luke hasn’t had a serious relationship since then. When Ethan has a minor accident and ends up in the emergency room, Christie and Luke meet and make a connection.

As Christie and Luke build a friendship, their mutual attraction becomes obvious. Their relationship quickly becomes physical, but Christie is holding back from being completely open with Luke because she’s afraid of how he’ll react to her secret.

There are some moving moments when the cause of Christie’s scandal is revealed. I sympathized with her wholeheartedly and understood why she wanted a fresh start somewhere new.

Luke’s devotion to his son makes him an endearing character. He’s strong and capable and only wants the best for his family. When he starts falling for Christie, he’s hesitant to draw her fully into Ethan’s life but gradually realizes that Christie is a perfect fit–for him as well as his son.

Since this is a novella, the timeline of the romance itself happens very quickly but the other elements appealed to me. The characters, both main and supporting, are the best part about the book. I’m especially interested to read the next novella in the series, which is about Luke’s twin brother, Matt.

A sweet but sexy romance, combined with deeper issues about trust and commitment, make this a solid read. I look forward to continuing The Graysons series.
