Current Read

Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai
(Print ARC from BookExpo)

I’m in a bit of a slump with this book right now. πŸ™ I’ve heard so much good buzz about it, but I’m halfway through and it’s just okay to me so far. It’s pretty heavy on angst and I’m very much a mood reader, so I think I’m just not in the right head space for this book at the moment. I’m trying to press on, but it’s a struggle and I keep looking longingly at other books I want to read instead. πŸ™ Should I DNF for now? I think I might need to, but I’m just in denial about it since so many others have loved this book. I feel like I just don’t get it.

Books Acquired

  • Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre (Print, Purchased)
I’ve never read this, but the forthcoming movie from Passionflix has me excited to finally add it to my TBR.
  • Afterburn/Aftershock by Sylvia Day (Print, Purchased)
Same deal with this book. I’ve been following the Instagram posts about the Passionflix movie, which just wrapped production. I remember trying to read Afterburn when it first came out, but DNFed it at the time (again, due to mood reasons). I’m going to give it another try.

Life or Something Like It

  • The glasses saga continues! I finally gave up on Zenni Optical after two defective pairs in a row (and several years of being their customer, but all good things must come to an end, I suppose). I defected to Warby ParkerΒ and ordered a home try-on. I narrowed my selections down to two pairs of frames, but couldn’t decide between the two…so I ordered them both. πŸ˜€ They’re being made now and hopefully–fingers crossed–they’ll work out.
  • Romancelandia congregated in Orlando last week for the annual RWA conference. Those of us who couldn’t/didn’t attend thankfully had a virtual conference, #notRWA17 on Twitter. Huge kudos to author Olivia Dade for organizing this! I read some really interesting discussions between authors, but also ones that pertained to me as a reviewer and blogger. Someday, I hope to attend RWA in person, but in the meantime, this virtual conference was an awesome alternative. The final day featured a giveaway bonanza and I won something, yay! I won the Not My 1st Rodeo anthology by Donna Alward, Sarah M. Anderson, and Jenna Bayley-Burke. πŸ™‚

Hope you have a great week! πŸ™‚
