Current Reads

Getting ready to start It Happened on Love Street by Lia Riley–this has been on my TBR for quite a while and I’m looking forward to a nice small-town story.

DNF

Demolished by Cathryn Fox
(Ebook, ARC from NetGalley)

This ended up not working for me. It had a sexy start, but I had trouble with the heroine’s continued dishonesty with the hero regarding her identity. I thought she would have come clean with him after the first night, but that wasn’t the case. I DNFed at 35%.

Books Acquired

My Book Outlet order arrived–this will probably be my last for a while! This was placed before I declared the book-buying diet. I received a few books from Tessa Dare’s backlist along with The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis and Honor by Jay Crownover.

Life or Something Like It

Book Beau Kickstarter
I backed the Book Beau Kickstarter a few months ago and my rewards came in. I got an indie size Beau and a mini Beau for my smaller books. I have mixed feelings. On one hand, the customer service was excellent, especially when I realized that my indie had a sewing defect (part of the lining had a hole where it wasn’t sewn properly). I contacted Book Beau and they sent me a replacement for free. That’s awesome!

On the other hand, I was disappointed with the quality of the Beaus themselves. The exterior fabric is very wrinkled, even once you put a book inside. It just doesn’t look very nice, speaking as someone who has sewn in the past–it looks very unfinished. I didn’t even want to take photos of them because of how wrinkly they are. 🙁 I watched an Instagram live video from the owner of Book Beau and she explained how the fabric is fused with the interior foam, so I’m guessing that’s why it has the wrinkled appearance. But I have other handmade book sleeves from Book Bubbie, for example, and the quality of those sleeves is much better.

I never ordered from Book Beau when she was still making her sleeves by hand, but it’s my guess that having them mass produced is what’s causing that issue I described. This is just my opinion, of course, and I’ll still use the Beaus…but I don’t think I’ll be ordering from them again, even though their customer service was really great.

Passionflix is Here!
After a long wait, Passionflix has launched! So far, I’ve started by watching Last Holiday, but what I’m really excited about are the original movies. Hollywood Dirt premieres on September 20! I need to read the book before then.

Labor Day Weekend
I had to work on Saturday, so I didn’t get a three-day weekend, but I am off on Monday, so I’m thankful for that! I’m also thankful that September is finally here. I look forward to cooler weather.

Hope you have a great week! 🙂
