Flaming Hot by Lynn LaFleur
This is…okay so far. It’s an anthology of firefighter stories, but I read the first story and there was no firefighting in it…? It’s briefly mentioned that the hero is a volunteer firefighter on the side, but his full-time job is as a school counselor. Kind of weird to have it in this anthology.
Gridlocked by Maren Lee
I’ve enjoyed the first two books in Maren Lee’s Bounty County series and so far I really like book #3. The hero, Wesson, is kind of a lovable goofball. He always gets figures of speech scrambled, so half of what he says comes out wrong, but in a hilarious way.
Never Gonna Read This Book
The Wild by K. Webster
There was A LOT of drama in Romancelandia this week about this highly taboo book, which was banned from Amazon. I emphasize that I have not read the book. I also emphasize that I won’t be reading it due to the spoilers I’ve read in reviews that describe the plot. This Goodreads review in particular is quite spoilery and helpful.
I think people should read what they want, but that book in particular is a big old NOPE sandwich for me. Side note: I found it interesting that the author of The Wild is one of the co-authors of a book I found highly problematic, for completely different reasons. Because of these two books, I’m choosing not to read this author again.
I received another order from Book Outlet, thanks to a sale they had last weekend. I’m also trying to read more of the authors on the Apollycon roster for next year, so I picked up A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev, Forget Tomorrow by Pintip Dunn, and SEAL of Honor by Tonya Burrows.
Life or Something Like It
Big Little Lies
I don’t have HBO, so I had to wait for Big Little Lies to be released on DVD and I finally watched it. OMG OBSESSED. I *may* have binge-watched the whole first season in one night…allegedly. I’m not the hugest Reese Witherspoon fan, but thought she did a really great job on the show. Also, I need my girl Nicole Kidman to win every award because she was the absolute best in this.
The Dark Tower
I saw The Dark Tower yesterday. I thought it was good (despite some really bad reviews, apparently), although I did think that the tone of the book versus the tone of the movie is quite different. I enjoyed them both, though, especially all of the easter eggs for Stephen King’s other works. I loved trying to spot them all.
I Survived Summer Reading Challenge
It’s finally over! Let me tell you, it was a LONG and busy summer at the library. I’m ready for back-to-school season, and for days to get a little cooler and a lot calmer at work.
Have a great week! 🙂
