Current Reads

I’m still enjoying The Trouble With Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis. It reminds me a lot of the early Lucky Harbor books, which is good. I started an ARC of Summer Fire by Deniz Bevan, but the jury’s still out on it. I’m not sure if The Dirty Bits line is for me…I always find the story development lacking.

DNF

I DNFed Wild Trail by A.M. Arthur. I wanted to love this book, but sadly, it didn’t work for me. I loved the flirtation between Wes and Mack, but there are so many secondary characters and I had trouble keeping track of all of them. I thought they would fade away and the story would focus more on the main couple, but the author was obviously setting up future romances/books. For me, that distracted from the central story and I wound up losing interest.

Life or Something Like It

My, My, My
Today Michael and I drove up to Williamsburg, VA, for a book signing with Detective Lt. Joe Kenda, aka the Homicide Hunter. It might seem like an unlikely pairing, but when I’m not reading romance, I’m obsessed with true crime shows, books, and podcasts. So having the opportunity to meet Lt. Kenda was so exciting! I was SUPER nervous, but he and his wife were both very nice. I posted pics on my Instagram (one, two, three, four, five).

Holiday Movie Extravaganza
I’ve been on a mission to track down more awesome holiday movies like Wrapped Up in Christmas. When I was watching Lifetime, I saw a commercial for another network (they must be affiliated?) called TV One, which specializes in African American programming. They have two original Christmas movies, one of which I watched a bit of (Miss Me This Christmas), but it didn’t strike me as a romance, so I kind of lost interest in it. I plan on checking out the other one, though (You Can’t Fight Christmas).

I was also super excited to watch Angry Angel on Freeform, which has an Asian actress (Brenda Song) as the lead character! 😱 I wouldn’t classify this one as a romance either, but it was a fun movie in the same vein as It’s a Wonderful Life and other stories like that…but far sassier, with curse words. 😆

If you know of any other diverse holiday movies, please send them my way!

Hope you have a great week!
